My Revelations on Studying the Book of Revelation ;-)

Okay, my friends, I'm not the Theologian of this relationship so I walked into the Book of Revelation Series not knowing what to expect. This happens to be Heath's favorite book of the Bible (well, besides the book of John...oh, and the book of Ephesians...oh, and don't forget the Psalms...) and he has studied it ad nauseam. (However for Heath it will never BE ad nauseam!) Anyhow, because he has studied it so many times and knows it so well I was a bit embarrassed to admit that I've probably only read through this book ONCE in my life. I've avoided it. It has been something I've tucked away as a "to-do" or a "one day" type of thing. You know, like that book you have on your bookshelf gathering dust that you've read one chapter and PLAN to get around to reading...one day. Well, that is my relationship with the book of Revelation. But why?

I think it stems from the fact that most of the book seems confusing and "fantastical" and I know a lot of people argue about how to interpret it. A lot of people become very distracted by the things in it. And a lot of people become somewhat obsessed by it. Those are a few reasons why I've tried to avoid it. But when we recently sat down to brainstorm ideas for our podcast, I realized that my husband has basically a treasure trove of information in his brain about this book. I decided to set aside my reluctancy and "baked my husband's cookies" so to speak and said to him, "Hey honey, I think you should record some bonus episodes on the book of Revelation. I mean, you are basically an expert on that topic and I know we've always talked about doing a Bible study together on that book. Whaddya think?"

Holy moly, it is like he was shot out of a cannon! He agreed and got very excited about the idea. Honestly, I knew he would be excited about it but I had no idea he would literally pour over the scriptures and spend so much time prepping for each episode. I didn't know each episode would be about an hour...and that there would probably be over 30 episodes in this series when all is said and done! Personally, I was thinking a couple episodes should do it! Ha ha! That shows how little I knew about the depth of this book and how rich and rewarding it is to study.

So, I'm here to hype it up! I'm thoroughly enjoying my journey through the Book of Revelation and I want to thank my dear husband, Heath, for all the hard work he has put into it thus far. We have a long ways to go to chapter 22 but I'm enjoying every minute. Heath presents the content in such a clear and simple way. It is so easy to understand. He is such an amazing teacher.

If you haven't listened to our Book of Revelation series yet, start from the beginning and settle in, you're about to go on an amazing journey. I can GUARANTEE that it will NOT be what you'd normally expect. Remember Revelation 1:3 says "Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of the prophecy, and heed the things which are written in it; for the time is near." Along with the special blessing you receive, you will learn so much...and you might find yourself falling more in love with Jesus and his Word. And THAT, my friends, is our goal here at Churchosity podcast.

Peace!

Andrea
